JAY SOM Shares "One More Time, Please" Music Video

Bay Area-based artist Jay Som - a.k.a. multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter and producer Melina Duterte - released her stunning break-out album Everybody Works earlier this year. The record debuted on the Billboard Independent Album and Heatseekers charts, and earned her a "Best New Music" review from Pitchfork, as well as international accolades from the likes of New York Times, The New Yorker, NPRRolling Stone and many more. Today, Duterte shares a music video for Everybody Works highlight "One More Time, Please."

We wanted to honor the heaviness of Melina’s lyrics by channeling the essence of madness many feel while attempting to live up to societal standards, behaviors or even personal obsessions. This madness can become mentally and physically enslaving. We follow the main character as she attempts to satisfy these standards/obsessions until she realizes her obsession with such is more of an internalized threat. This realization of her own obsessive state guides her to find her own peace of mind and acceptance of herself.
— Christopher Good and Andreina Byrne (Co-writers, directors and producers of "One More Time, Please")

SOCCER MOMMY Shares New Song via NPR, Announces Mini-Album out 8/4 on Fat Possum

Soccer Mommy - the project of nineteen-year-old Nashville native, NYU student and musical wunderkind Sophie Allison - has built a reputation as an incredibly exciting DIY artist, recording her own songs and releasing them for free on Bandcamp over the last few years. Today, Soccer Mommy announces that she has signed withFat Possum Records and will release a mini-album entitled Collection on August 4th. Comprising of reworked versions of some of her best Bandcamp releases, as well as a few new songs written, mixed and produced by Sophie herself, Collection is the perfect introduction to Soccer Mommy's sound: quietly catchy, surprisingly confrontational, the kind of music that sneaks up on you and makes a permanent first impression. Pre-order Collection HERE.

Listen to the first new song "Out Worn" - a relatable, anthemic and overall searing takedown of the desire for male validation - via NPR's Songs We Love HERE.

The songs on Collection portray an artist fully-formed, mature far beyond her age. Sophie sings of toxic relationships, infatuations, and all the experiences of being a teenage girl. There's a freedom and a joy to this music, and Collection stands as an excellent introduction to a powerful new voice. Critics may decry the end of guitar music, same as they have for over thirty years. The fact remains that as long as records like Collection exist, there will be no shortage of young artists bashing their hearts out on guitars for years to come. These perfect pop gems have power, and Collection is destined to be a favorite record.

Track listing:

1. Allison

2. Try

3. Death By Chocolate

4. Out Worn

5. 3am At A Party

6. Inside Out

7. Benadryl Dreams

Guggenheim Museum announced a second performance of Solange: An Ode To. Tickets for the originally announced show sold out immediately and will take place this Thursday, May 18 at 6:30pm. With the 2016 release of A Seat at the Table, Solange Knowles earned widespread commercial and critical acclaim—a long-awaited coronation for one of R&B’s most inspiring talents. Undeniably intense, politically galvanizing, and sonically beautiful, the album is a document of personal and universal struggle, with Solange’s vocals and lyrical perspective matched by peerless funk, soul, and R&B backing. Now Solange adds to this triumph with An Ode To, an interdisciplinary performance piece and meditation on themes from A Seat at the Table that incorporates movement, installation, and experimentally reconstructed musical arrangements. Presented in the museum’s iconic rotunda as part of the Red Bull Music Academy Festival New York 2017, An Ode Toshowcases familiar and reimaginedversions of songs from A Seat at the Table and continues the Guggenheim’s rich program of groundbreaking performances.

Clark Shares Dizzying "Peak Magnetic" Video - On Tour Now With Com Truise

Clark can now preview a new visual cut for stand out album track and live favorite ‘Peak Magnetic’. The topsy-turvy, vertigo-inducing video unrolls with the momentum of the track and dancers Kiani del Valle and Sophia Ndaba who are currently touring with Clark and his awe inspiring live show featuring the choreography of Melanie Lane.

The video is directed by Sander Houtkruijer. Sander has risen to prominence via visuals for artists like Floating Points and Matias Aguayo.

I wanted to create a distinct world that these two characters inhabit, but at the same time showing that this world is their own creation. This world has no traceable origin, but is more like a 3D test rendering, a kind of map, or template, both for itself and for other worlds outside of it. Also in accordance with Clark’s music, I wanted it to throw together different, seemingly opposing elements, like synthetic vs organic and live-action vs animation, and see how they can contrast with each other, and at some points, sync together, to create a new whole in which all these tensions dissolve.
— Sander Hautkrujier
