Actress Shares New Single, 'AZD' Album Out Next Week on Ninja Tune

As usual, no one can describe Actress’s work better than he can himself. “Dancing In The Smoke” is, he says, concerned with “that moment in the club, in the side room which is less habituated where the music is more diffused from the main club, smoked out and disorientating.” Already you get some sense of the piece, all angular rhythms, woozy synth pads and disembodied vocal refrains. “The DJ has locked on a groove,” he continues, “and you’re there in your own space pulsing with the music. As the different spaces start to merge and turn with the effects of your prescription for the night, that alien cacophony of lasers and tone trip the buzz for a flight into that kind of euphoria that only spacing to the rhythm of the metropolis can bring.

Mica Levi's Oscar Nominated JACKIE Score To Be Performed Live By 40-Piece Orchestra June 3rd at Theater at Ace Hotel in LA

On Saturday June 3, Nederlander Concerts, Wordless Music, and Fox Searchlight present the world premiere live score for Pablo Larrain's JACKIE (2016), performed by the 40-piece Wordless Music Orchestra, and led by conductor Jayce Ogren at The Theatre at Ace Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.

Set to an unforgettable soundtrack by composer Mica Levi, JACKIE garnered the first Academy Award nomination for Best Original Score for music written by a female composer in twenty years.

JACKIE is a searing and intimate portrait of one of the most important and tragic moments in American history, seen through the eyes of the iconic First Lady, then Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy (Natalie Portman). JACKIE places us in her world during the days immediately following her husband's assassination. Known for her extraordinary dignity and poise, here we see a psychological portrait of the First Lady as she struggles to maintain her husband's legacy and the world of "Camelot" that they created and loved so well.

Mica Levi (Micachu) is a London based artist, composer and music producer.  Mica studied composition at the Guildhall School of Music, garnering her first classical commission from the London Philharmonic at age 20.  Her iconic score for Jonathan Glazer’s Under the Skin won the European Film Award, the Los Angeles Film Critcs Award and was nominated for a BAFTA for Best Music.  Mica was also the youngest artist in residence at London’s Southbank Center and has performed at major art institutions worldwide including the Getty, MoMA PS1 and the Barbican.

JACKIE is directed by Pablo Larraín and written by Noah Oppenheim.  In addition to Academy Award® winner Portman, the film stars Peter Sarsgaard, Greta Gerwig, Billy Crudup, and Academy Award® nominee John Hurt.  JACKIE is produced by Juan De Dios Larraín, Darren Aronofsky, Mickey Liddell, Scott Franklin, and Ari Handel.

Having performed the US premiere of Mica Levi's score to Jonathan Glazer's sci-fi drama UNDER THE SKIN in 2015, and the world premiere live score of Paul Thomas Anderson's PUNCH-DRUNK LOVE with Jon Brion and Joanna Newsom at the Ace Hotel in 2016, Wordless Music Orchestra now returns to the Ace for the world premiere of last year's most haunting original film score.

Tickets for this event go on sale Friday, April 7th via nederlander.com and wordlessmusic.org

Hear NICK HAKIM's New Track "Green Twins;" Album Out May 19 on ATO Records

Nick Hakim just released the second single from his upcoming debut full-length album Green Twins. Of the songs on the album, he says “many of them are like self-portraits” and the album’s title track is one such song. He told Noisey, “I had a dream where we were walking down the road in JP (Jamaica Plain, MA) and two little green babies were running around the side walk. There was a crash behind us. As we walk away, we look back and the twins had been run over by a car. The babies were made out of some green jello texture. This dream happened three times. This song was the starting point for this project. It was written around the same month that a child was to be born (October 2013).”

It’s a little hip-hop and a lot of psych, with a crescendo that pivots on dissonance.

Throughout its decade of existence, Brooklyn-based record label Sacred Bones has released music that affirms the dual implications of their name – music that is both luminous and haunting, divine and macabre. Founded by Caleb Braaten and now co-run by Taylor Brode, their vast catalog swerves between those two poles while maintaining a remarkable emotional consistency, creating a new sort of gothic Americana assuming disparate forms via power electronics, experimental folk, psychedelic rock and narcotic pop. This balance between imposing darkness and cleansing light will be on display at Sacred Bones 10 Year Anniversary, taking place as part of the Red Bull Music Academy Festival New York 2017, with performances by various factions of the label’s familial community of music-makers including JennyHval, Zola Jesus, Marissa Nadler, The Men, Moon Duo (performing with film director Jim Jarmusch for the first time), Psychic Ills, Uniform, Rose McDowall, and Genesis Breyer P-Orridge and Edley ODowdfeaturing Blanck Mass.
